Wayfinding and Signage
Planning Consultants
With the complete end user experience in mind we masterplan, design and document wayfinding signage packages to tender stage.

1. Develop Wayfinding Strategies
From architectural floor plans, elevations and site surveys at the initial stage, we develop wayfinding strategies and conceptual drawings into full colour comprehensive specification schedules to meet the intended brief and budget.
Wayfinding determines primary and secondary navigation, entry points, decision points and traffic flow around and within the site. A sign type hierarchy will typically consist of external and internal directional and identification signage for pedestrians and vehicles as well as Building Code compliant statutory signage.
2. Develop a Sign Schedule
The concept stage of the design process starts with hand sketches which are refined and translated into a cad based environment and presented as sign type drawings and sign location plans for Client approval.
The next stage is to create a sign schedule detailing text, graphics and symbols in consultation with the Project’s end user group.

3. Provide Documentation
Final documentation includes detailed drawings of each sign type, a sign schedule and sign locations plans suitable for tender. The drawings are supplied to the Client specifying all materials, finishes, fabrication details and overall design aesthetic.
On the appointment of the Building Contractor our extensive manufacturing experience is available to manage the Project through to a successful completion.

Having joined Waypoint Design in 2016 I have adapted my passion for Graphic Design to the vast world of Signage. Waypoint have, without doubt, become the leading Design Consultancy in Australia for Wayfinding and Signage Design. I believe my contribution has helped the Studio to grow and to build on our already enviable reputation and truly expect that to continue. My role has included:
- Generating detailed specifications and final designs for wayfinding and signage projects.
- Maintaining consistent artwork using client style guides and specifications.
- Preparing fully documented Signage Packages up to tender stage.
- Translating complex concepts and data into compelling visuals for the new Hervey Bay Emergency Department. Using hand painted artwork, I had photographed and then began the process of editing them to suit a three sided pylon, keeping the clients personal interests and ideas as a priority.
- Generating new ideas with limited direction and varied internal client needs.
- Researching current and emerging art and graphic design technologies.
“Wayfinding is not a science – common sense and experience are the key skills”.

Grant Manning
Principal Consultant
Having founded and Manage Wood & Wood Sign Systems since 1991 – in 2004 we realised there was a strong demand for a specialist Wayfinding Consultancy that understood the mechanics and practical manufacturing methods of Architectural Signmaking. Waypoint Design has in effect a 40 year background in Wayfinding and Signage manufacturing – a rare asset. Our focus and strategy is specific – work with the best materials and be economical. Less signage often results in a clear message to users rather than a cluttered over use.
Grant has a Mechanical Engineering background, ex BMW UK, and a strong knowledge of aluminium construction techniques. Combined with today’s high tech signmaking equipment on hand Grant has a vast knowledge of signmaking methods to adapt to the working environment.
Project Management of major Projects, Moreton Bay Rail, Sunshine Coast University Private and Canberra Parks are testament to Grant’s hands on ability and achievements.
